The ins & outs of VERISOL® collagen

Collagen, a protein that forms the foundation of our connective tissue, is essential for firm and elastic skin. From the age of 25, collagen production declines, causing our skin to gradually lose its resilience. Collagen has been added to skincare products like creams for years, but you can also add it to your diet through a supplement. The collagen we use in our Collagen Lemonade comes from VERISOL®, and we'd like to explain more about it in this blog post!

What is VERISOL® collagen?

VERISOL® is a true beauty collagen, stimulating your skin's metabolism and effectively counteracting collagen loss from within. VERISOL® collagen is a hydrolyzed form of collagen. Hydrolyzed also means "cut into pieces." The whole fibers that make up collagen are cut into small pieces, creating peptides with a low molecular weight. This makes them easily digestible, easily absorbed, and better distributed throughout your body.

What are the benefits of VERISOL® collagen?

Easily absorbed
VERISOL® is a hydrolyzed type 1 collagen. This collagen is better absorbed and distributed by the body, unlike other collagen in a different form.

Natural skin rejuvenator
This collagen (type I) is specially formulated to nourish and rejuvenate the skin from within. It can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin elasticity. It also helps increase hair volume, promote beautiful, strong nails, and can even reduce cellulite.

Clinically proven
The results of using VERISOL® collagen are clinically proven. It can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin elasticity. Collagen also helps improve hair volume, for voluminous hair and beautiful, strong nails.

High dose
Several studies with VERISOL® collagen have already shown results after taking 2.5 grams of collagen per day. Yummygums offers double the amount to optimally support your body.

What other types of collagen are there?

The most commonly used forms of collagen in supplements are collagen type I and collagen type II. Each form of collagen has its own specific function, so it's helpful to know your purpose for taking collagen.

Collagen type I
This type of collagen is the most abundant in your body, making up over 90% of all collagen. You'll find this type almost everywhere in your body. It's in your bones, skin, tendons, blood vessels, and much more. Type 1 collagen helps keep all these parts strong and flexible. As you age, your body produces less of this type of collagen, which can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin. To counteract this, you can take collagen supplements that contain primarily type 1. This works best when hydrolyzed.

Collagen type II
Like type I collagen, type II also provides the nutrients needed to produce new collagen. This type is primarily found in your cartilage, the soft tissue at the ends of your bones and in your joints. Taking type 2 collagen supplements can help keep your cartilage healthy and reduce joint inflammation.

Collagen type III
This type of collagen is important for the strength of blood vessels, muscles, and certain organs like the liver and kidneys. You also find type 3 in your skin. It specifically helps build muscle, so if you want to strengthen your muscles or recover faster after exercise, type 3 collagen can be beneficial.

Why do we choose VERISOL® collagen?

Quality is always a top priority at Yummygums. VERISOL® collagen is well-researched and scientifically proven. The bovine collagen we use from VERISOL® is also made from grass-fed cattle, contains no E-numbers, and is halal.

What research has been done on VERISOL® collagen?

Several studies demonstrate the effectiveness of VERISOL® collagen. This collagen is used by Yummygums in our collagen powder. We'll briefly explain the studies.

Study 1: Reduction of wrinkle depth
In this study, 114 women between the ages of 45 and 65 received 2.5 grams of VERISOL® or a placebo once daily for eight weeks. Participants' facial wrinkles were measured after four weeks of use and after the full eight weeks of use. Measurements were also taken four weeks after the last dose of collagen. After eight weeks, the measured reduction in wrinkles was an average of 20.1%. In one participant, this reduction was even 49.9%. Furthermore, a positive long-term effect was observed in the participants. Results were still visible four weeks after the last dose. The conclusion of this study was therefore that taking collagen powder (specific bioactive collagen peptides) reduces skin wrinkles and has a positive effect on rebuilding the skin's basic structure.

Study 2: Improvement of skin elasticity
A second study, focusing on the effectiveness of collagen hydrolysate, examined skin aging. Sixty-nine women between the ages of 35 and 55 received 2.5 grams, 5 grams, or a placebo for eight weeks. Each group consisted of 23 subjects. Skin elasticity, moisture, water loss, and skin roughness were objectively measured before the first oral administration of collagen or the placebo. This was repeated after four and eight weeks of regular intake. The study showed a significant improvement in skin elasticity in the group taking VERISOL® collagen compared to the placebo group.

Study 3: Reduction of cellulite
This study examined the cellulite of healthy-weight and overweight women. 105 women between the ages of 24 and 50 were examined. For six months, they received either 2.5 grams of collagen or a placebo daily. The amount of cellulite was determined before the study, after three months of use, and after six months of use. Based on the data, it can be concluded that long-term use of collagen powder (bioactive collagen peptides) leads to an improvement in cellulite and has a positive effect on skin health.
