What is the difference between Omega-3 DHA, EPA, and ALA?

Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats. The most well-known are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and the fish fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). ALA is found in vegetable oils, to a lesser extent in meat, and in green leafy vegetables. EPA and DHA are primarily found in fish and seafood.

Why DHA Omega-3?

Our gummies contain DHA from algae oil as many people's bodies are not efficient in producing DHA. We have consciously chosen to incorporate only this omega-3 fatty acid instead of ALA or EPA. ALA is converted into EPA and DHA in your body. However, a significant amount of ALA is needed to produce a small amount of DHA. Additionally, we naturally produce EPA from DHA and ALA. For vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians, it may be unnecessary to take extra EPA, as a healthy lifestyle provides enough Omega-3 ALA (which is converted into EPA). However, if your body requires it, DHA can also be partially converted into EPA. Our DHA gummies are a great supplement for your fatty acid status, regardless of your diet.

Why is there less than 0.04 g of sugar per gummy?

Our gummies are made with a special plant-based algae oil. This algae oil contains a small amount of sugar (<0.04 g per gummy) but does not have the typical fishy taste. This way, you can enjoy a gummy with the benefits of Omega-3 without experiencing an unpleasant aftertaste or reflux!

Where is Omega-3 found?

The most well-known source of omega-3 is fatty fish, such as salmon, sardines, or halibut, but omega-3 fatty acids can also be obtained from krill. Another good source is algae, from which fish also derive their daily dose. Additionally, omega-3 can also be obtained from many other plant-based sources such as flaxseed oil, walnuts and chia seeds.

What is Omega-3 good for?

Omega-3 is beneficial for various aspects of health. The health benefits are still being extensively researched and many effects of these essential acids are already known. DHA is an important building block for your brain, for both adults and children. By consuming extra DHA during pregnancy or breastfeeding, you support the development of your child's brain. Additionally, it is also beneficial for the development of children's vision and it helps adults maintain sharp vision.

How much Omega-3 per day?

The recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids can vary based on various factors, including age, gender, health condition and diet. Generally, a daily intake of 200-500 mg of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is recommended for adults.

For individuals who are pregnant or who have certain health conditions such as heart disease, a higher dose of omega-3 fatty acids may be necessary. We recommend discussing this with your doctor first.
